Marigold Man Rests - Spring Clean Copmplete

This series of Marigold Men are mono-types - they are made as an edition of 5 prints using an intaglio process where the ink is rubbed into and off the mount board plate, so a true identical edition is not possible. They are very small editions and the marigolds - rubber gloves - are added in neon acrylic.

The concern is socio-political, an address of assumed gender roles in Art and physical history. Marigold Men (Marigolds are luridly coloured rubber gloves) an on-going series of prints, the male nude wearing rubber gloves, comic and concerned with the depiction of men in advertising using cleaning products and the male names given to cleaning products: Mr. Clean, Mr. Muscle, Mr. Sheen etc. Domestic tasks: the move in advertising and domestic product names being masculine, led to a play on the 1950’s Pop Art of Richard Hamilton and the domestic age, in the twenty first century the notion of the house husband and men in advertising, perhaps ordinary cleaners reach a little further now?
